Judy Collins to sing at sold-out shows at the Kate

It’s not overstating it to say that Judy Collins is an icon.

    Judy Collins

Her music served as one of the soundtracks of the 1960s and ’70s, and her life has provided her with lots of intriguing anecdotes to relay during her shows. Which fans will experience if they see her in concert at sold-out events Tuesday and May 3 at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook.

While Collins might have had her biggest albums sales during the ’60s and ’70s, she has continued with a wide-ranging and illustrious career. She earned a Grammy nom in 2017 for Best Folk Album for “Silver Skies Blue” with Ari Hest. She had her first No. 1 album on the American Billboard charts (hard to believe, but true) in 2019 with “Winter Stories.” And last year, she released her first studio album consisting entirely of original material; it was called “Spellbound.”

Set lists from recent shows have boasted such classic numbers as “Diamonds & Rust,” “Both Sides Now,” “Amazing Grace” and “Send in the Clowns.”

Judy Collins, 7:30 p.m. May 2 and 3, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $82; (860) 510-0453.
