The Godmother of Soul: Patti Labelle to play Foxwoods
Here’s an unlikely couple: Cardi B and Patti LaBelle.
But these two — the boundary-pushing rapper and the “Godmother of Soul” diva — have a mutual admiration society, according to People magazine. While they were talking about the seasonal partnership between their individual dessert products (Cardi B’s Whipshots alcoholic whipped cream and LaBelle’s Good Life Pies), LaBelle said, “I've been her mother in my mind for a long time because she's just all that and a bag of chips. And I'm all that and a bag of chips.”
Cardi B, meanwhile, said, “I’m super starstruck. I’m on my best behavior.”
LaBelle — who was honored recently, along with Tanya Tucker, with the CMT “Smashing Glass” program — is coming to Foxwoods Friday to perform. Considering it’s the day after Thanksgiving, well, LaBelle’s concert here is absolutely something to be thankful for.
Patti LaBelle, 8 p.m. Friday, Premier Theater, Foxwoods; tickets start at $54; foxwoods.com.
