JACK Quartet in concert at Conn College

    JACK Quartet (Submitted)

First of all, no. There are no musicians named Jack in the JACK Quartet.

The letters in JACK are actually an acronym for the first names of the four founding members.

With a couple of changes in personnel in the nearly two decades since, the group now consists of violist John Richards, violinists Christopher Otto and Austin Wulliman, and cellist Jay Campbell.

And they continue to make quite a splash, earning a Grammy nomination in 2022 for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for their album “Lines Made By Walking.”

In a November profile, the New York Times opined that, “with that sprawling stylistic range and its technical mastery, its enthusiastic curiosity about eminent and student composers alike, its precision and passion, the JACK has, since its founding in 2005, become one of contemporary music’s indispensable ensembles.”

Hear what they mean when JACK Quartet plays Friday at Connecticut College.

JACK Quartet, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center, Connecticut College, New London; $22, $20 for seniors, $11 for students; (860) 439-2787, onstage.conncoll.edu.
