Herb Alpert, Lani Hall play Tuesday in New London

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center is taking its act on the road. And in this case, the act means Herb Alpert and Lani Hall. And the road leads to New London.

The Kate is presenting a concert by legendary trumpet player/producer Alpert and illustrious singer Hall, but it’s doing so at Connecticut College’s Palmer Auditorium on Tuesday.

Alpert and Hall, who have been wed since 1973, did two back-to-back shows at the Kate in 2022. But this time, they will do one gig for a larger audience. (The Kate has 285 seats, while Palmer can accommodate over 1,200 people.)

Alpert became a household name back in the 1960s, when he and The Tijuana Brass hit the top of the charts. In fact, in 1966, the group had four albums in the top 10 and five in the top 20. All told, Alpert has sold more than 72 million records.

He met Hall when A&M Records, which Alpert co-founded, signed her group Brasil ’66. Hall has won two Grammy Awards and has recorded more than 22 albums in three languages over the course of her career.
