RHODE ISLAND GETS NEW ROUND OF RECOVERY AID AFTER SANDY

Providence - Rhode Island has been approved for another round of federal disaster recovery funding to improve public services, housing and flood prevention after Superstorm Sandy.

The state's congressional delegation announced details last week of another $3.3 million in block grant funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The state has received about $20 million through the program since Sandy devastated coastal areas of Rhode Island and other Northeast states in 2012.

Most of the funds are for projects in Washington County, which was hard hit by the storm.

Among the projects receiving grants for are generators and equipment to safeguard essential services in several towns. Others are the ChurchWoods senior housing development in Charlestown, water system upgrades in Narragansett and Westerly, and shoreline stabilization at the Camp Cronin public fishing area.
