Some Connecticut tax deadlines extended due to Irene

Connecticut tax officials are extending by a week some business tax filing deadlines because of Tropical Storm Irene.

Businesses that must pay the monthly sales and use tax, business use tax, room occupancy tax and other levies will have until Sept. 7 to file.

Kevin B. Sullivan, commissioner of the Department of Revenue Services, said Monday that business owners may be unable to meet the Aug. 31 deadline because of widespread and extended power outages in Connecticut.

Sullivan said filing extensions will be granted in counties subject to federal or state declarations of emergency or disaster.
