Heavy rains could cause flooding this morning

Torrential rains and thunderstorms are sweeping through parts of eastern Connecticut this morning, the first of two waves of rain expected to fall on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory through 10:45 a.m. for Middlesex and New London counties. Minor flooding is expected in low lying and poor drainage areas.

The storms could cause isolated flash flooding in spots this morning, the National Weather Service warns. Rain is expected to subside by late morning but more rain is forecast to fall between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
