    Updated: Power restored in Norwich

Norwich ― Norwich Public Utilities said it has restored power to the thousands of people who had lost power for several hours on Monday morning.

NPU said the power outages were first reported at 5 a.m. on Monday and at about 7,000 homes and businesses were without power. Power was restored by 9:45 a.m. to all but 1,000 customers in the Laurel Hill section of Norwich. NPU said that except for a few isolated cases, power was restored citywide by 10:15 a.m.

NPU spokesman Chris Riley, in a statement, said NPU thinks the outage was the result of Sunday’s storm that created the outage within NPU’s 10th Street Substation. NPU continues to investigate.
