Snow coats region, expected to taper off this afternooon

Residents in southeastern Connecticut woke up on Saturday to a coating of snow, part of a system that is expected to drop an inch or more of snow across the region.

The snow started overnight and is expected to taper off by mid afternoon with the potential for lingering snow showers later this afternoon, Gary Lessor, chief meteorologist for the weather center at Western Connecticut State University, said. Parts of southwestern Connecticut on Saturday reported up to two inches of snow, Lessor said.

Temperatures will be in the 30s today. Despite slippery conditions in places, most of the roads are simply wet.

Sunday will be breezy and cold, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures topping out in the upper 30s. Temperatures will rise to at least 40 degrees on Monday with sunny skies expected for the holiday, according to the National Weather Service.
