High wind, flood warnings for coastal areas

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch, high wind warning and an overall hazardous weather outlook in New London County with the incoming storm.

Rain that started Wednesday morning is expected to continue through the night and into Thursday, with up to 2 inches of rain possible. The storm is bringing with it winds of 25 to 28 miles per hour with gust exceeding 40 mph.

The coastal flood watch is in effect late Wednesday night through Thursday morning “with minor to locally moderate flooding possible in the vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline,” the National Weather Service said.

The combination of heavy rain, runoff and elevated water levels late Wednesday afternoon could also cause flash flooding on shoreline roads and properties.
