    Charles James Whaley, 71, Madison

Charles James Whaley, 71, husband of Carol Whaley of Madison, died on June 8. He was known as "Charlie" in Connecticut and "Jimmy" in New York, where he was raised by his beloved deceased parents Arthur and Josephine Whaley. His New York family will miss him very much.

He moved to Madison in 1968, where he and his wife raised their children, Michael, Marybeth, and Jack. An elevator mechanic and contractor, he was retired from Connecticut Elevator, which was a family owned business. Charlie loved fishing and talking politics with all of his friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jack and Laura Whaley and their son Matthew; his daughter Marybeth Whaley and her children Brianna Whaley and Michael Whaley; his brother John Whaley and his wife Pat; and two sisters, Ann Whaley and Mary Tafarella and her husband Robert. In addition to his grandchildren, whom he loved very much and who called him "Pepa," he loved his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Michael E. Whaley.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Saint George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford, on Saturday July 24 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Your Heart Help the Community, P.O. Box 273, Northford, CT 06472; or to the Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 97057, Washington, D.C. 20077-7315. The Guilford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
