    Eleanor Hardy, 84, Chester, formerly of Deep River

    Eleanor May “Pat” Hardy, 84, formerly of Deep River, died peacefully on Oct. 22 at Chesterfields Healthcare Center, Chester, after a year long stay. She was the wife of the late Richard E. Hardy. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 23, 1926, daughter of the late Charles H. and Elsie M. Patterson. She and her husband moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1950, then to Syracuse, New York, in 1957, before settling in Deep River in 1962.

    “Pat” was trained in electroencephalography, the recording of brain waves, in Denver, Colorado, at the Porter Hospital in early 1951. In Connecticut, she worked for many years at Yale-New Haven Hospital in the EEG Lab and the Neurology Department at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, where she worked for many years as the supervisor and registered EEG technologist. During her career, she adapted to many changes and advances in equipment and technology, and also trained many others in the techniques of recording brain waves before she retired.

    She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Richard E. Hardy II and his wife Wendy of San Diego, California; Jonathan S. Hardy and his wife Claudia and their daughters Caitlyn, Sarah, and Jillian of Deep River; Bradford P. Hardy and his wife Tracy and their daughters Carly, Megan, and Erin, also of Deep River; and Sylvia J. Hooghkirk and her husband David and their children Daniel and Nicole of Chester. She is also survived by three brothers, Thomas and his wife Marion of Corona, California, Alton and his wife Elizabeth of Massachusetts, and Charles and his partner Caroline, also of Massachusetts. In addition, she is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her sister Norma and her brother Lloyd.

    A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church in Deep River, followed by a small reception. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (www.nationalbreastcancer.org), or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (www.Alzfdn.org).
