Robert James O’Connor, 87, of Guilford, died in Guilford on May 11. His was the loving husband of the late Georgianna Shepard O’Connor.  Robert was born in New Haven on May 20, 1924, son of the late James and Mary K. McHugh  O’Connor.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked at the Union Trust Company in New Haven as a teller supervisor.  During his retirement years, Robert worked at Guilford High School and at Page Hardware in Guilford for 10 years.  He was an avid New York Yankees and Knicks fan and loved to spend his August summers at the beach and listening to baseball.

He is survived by a niece, Jane Shepard of Hamden; a nephew, Lee Shepard of South Windsor; and a cousin and his close friend, Stephen Page of Guilford. 

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Wednesday, May 16, at 10 a.m., followed by burial with military honors in St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven.  Those wishing to remember Robert with a memorial contribution are asked to donate to the Guilford Foundation, PO Box 35, Guilford, CT 06437.  The Guilford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
