    Vincent Cassella, 97, Formerly of Branford

    Vincent Cassella, 97, formerly of Branford, died May 19 at Apple Rehabilitation in Guilford. He was the husband of the late Marie Cirie Cassella. Vin was born in New Haven on Oct. 22, 1914, son of the late Michael and Margaret Maffeo Cassella. He was a retired mason, having worked for R.A. Civitello for many years. Vin was also a member of K of C Eldorado Council 10 in Branford and was a communicant and former usher at St. Mary Church. In addition, he was a longtime umpire in the Branford softball leagues, was an avid New York Yankees fan, and served as a board member of the Branford Recreation Department.

    His family thanks the staff at Apple Rehabilitation for its many years of care and concern for Vin.

    Vin is survived by three children, Vincent D. Cassella of Branford, Darlene Cassella of New Haven, and Debra Cassella and her husband Hope Powers of North Carolina; three grandchildren, William Cassella of New Haven, Jennifer Cassella and her husband Mark Fellows of Oregon, and Amelia Powers of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Jason Fellows of Oregon; and his brother Ernest Cassella and his wife Nancy of Bethany. He was predeceased by his sisters Pauline Cassella, Rita Musco, Rose Cassella, and Margaret Corio.

    His funeral procession left the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, Branford, on May 24, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Church. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery.
