    Edip Edward N. Mehmet, Branford

    Edip Edward N. Mehmet of Branford, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, died peacefully at home on July 14. He was the beloved husband of Bette Mehmet. Mr. Mehmet was born in the village of Graca, Albania, and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 6. He attended Boys High School and City College in Brooklyn, New York. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was trained as a combat medic. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded the Commendation Ribbon for outstanding and dedicated service. Mr. Mehmet owned and worked in numerous restaurants throughout the metropolitan area and finally settled in Branford where he was the owner of the Gold Coast Grill.

    Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children Diane Fredericks and her husband Gregg of North Haven, Robert Mehmet and his wife Terri of Naples, Florida, and Ronald Mehmet of Branford, and two grandchildren, Jamie and Shelby. He is also survived by his two brothers Michael and his wife Gail of Brooklyn, New York, and James and his wife Patricia of Queens, New York, and several nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call on Tuesday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, with a wake on Wednesday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chase Parkway Memorial Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Albanian Mosque, 38 Raymond St., Waterbury, CT 06706, or to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, Branford, was in charge of arrangements.
