    Dorothy Loftus Houlihan, 79, Old Saybrook

    Dorothy Loftus Houlihan, 79, of Old Saybrook, died on Dec. 8 with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Timothy Houlihan, formerly of County Kerry, Ireland. Dorothy was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Hart) Loftus, formerly of Bronx, New York. She graduated from Fordham University with a degree in pharmacy and owned Flanders’ Pharmacy from 1973 until 1995. She was also an avid fan of UConn Women’s basketball, and she thoroughly enjoyed attending UConn games in the company of her granddaughter Amanda and Amanda’s boyfriend, Bryan Wunsch. For the past five years, Dorothy volunteered at the Estuary Council of Seniors in Old Saybrook where she will be greatly missed.

    She is survived by her children, Eileen of Old Saybrook, Denis of Oakdale, Margaret of Old Saybrook, Sheila and her husband Andrew Wizner of Wethersfield, and Cathy and her partner Thomas Campbell of Marietta, Georgia. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Amanda Spada of South Windham, and Sarah, Eamon, and Eliza Wizner of Wethersfield, as well as five sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews living in New Jersey, Ireland, and England. She was predeceased by her daughter Noreen and by her brother James Loftus of Clifton, New Jersey.

    Her funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11:30 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Old Saybrook, followed by a private burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook. Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 14, at the Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook from 5 to 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mosaic, 100 Sebethe Dr., Suite 2A, Cromwell, CT 06416, or to the Estuary Council of Seniors, 220 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
