    Newman Carlton 'Gup' Guptill, 86, formerly of Old Saybrook

    Newman Carlton ‘Gup’ Guptill, 86, loving husband of 63 years to Dorothy (Fitzgerald) Guptill, formerly of Old Saybrook, died July 13 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida. He was born May 31, 1927 in Machiasport, Maine.

    Mr. Guptill was a former resident of Old Saybrook and has lived in Bartow, Florida for the past 26 years.

    He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines and a Navy veteran of the Korean War from 1951-1955. He worked as a field supervisor for Northeast Utilities for 37 years, and after retiring to Florida, he was a visitation associate for the Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow for over 19 years.

    He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in Bartow, twice a past president of the Floral Lakes Homeowners Association, and a member of the American Legion Post #3.

    In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Tammy Kenyon and her husband Kim of East Lyme, his son Timothy Guptill of Bartow, four grandchildren; Michelle Guptill, Timothy Guptill Jr. and his wife Teresa, of Tampa, Shelby Kenyon, and Ashley Costa and her husband Alex, of East Lyme, three great- grandchildren, nephews Donald and his wife Kris Guptill and Douglas Bramble, and nieces Kerry Kosky and Barbara Bramble.

    Visitation will be held at the Robinson,Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, with service to follow at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Church, Old Saybrook, and burial with full military honors in Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook.
