Sue K. Johnson, 73, Old Saybrook

Sue K. Johnson, 73, of Old Saybrook, wife of the late Warren W. Johnson, died July 29 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and friends.

Sue was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Chicago to the late Frank and Sophie Kapanowski. She attended Loyola University, and it was while in Chicago that she met and married her husband, Warren. They later settled in Westport, where they lived for more than 30 years. Sue was a member and former president of the Westport Young Women’s League.

After moving to Old Saybrook, Sue enjoyed tending her roses and tomatoes, spending time with her walking group, and socializing with many friends and neighbors. She was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Westbrook. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially being “Mimi” to her adoring grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all.

Sue is survived by her children Kurt V. Johnson and his wife Karen of Groton, Massachusetts, Kristen K. Johnson of New York City; her two grandchildren Connor and Kellie Johnson of Groton, Massachusetts; her brother Frank Kapp and his wife Gail of Collierville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, August 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, Westbrook. Calling hours will be Friday, August 2 from 5-8 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Sue Johnson may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or by mail to American Cancer Society, P.O.
