    Charles 'Charlie' Trine, 90, Old Saybrook

    Charles “Charlie” Trine, 90, of Old Saybrook, beloved husband of the late Mary Jean Trine, died Aug. 15 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

    He was born March 12, 1923 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Mary Trine, and was the youngest of 14 children. Charlie served in the United States Navy from 1941-1946 and was a proud veteran of World War II. He was a resident of Old Saybrook since 1967 and an employee of NCR Corporation for 40 years before his retirement.

    He dedicated his life to his wife and three sons. Charlie will be best remembered as a true gentleman to all, and for his devotion to his family and his passion for golf.

    He is survived by his sons Kevin and his wife Elizabeth Trine of Novi, Michigan and Terence Trine of Old Saybrook; and his companion of 8 years Betty Kalleher. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jean, and by his eldest son Patrick Trine.

    Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 4-7 p.m. at The Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook. A memorial mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 at St John’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Cypress Cemetery, Old Saybrook.
