    Selina F. Black, 85, Essex

    Selina F. “Tina” Black, 85, of Essex, beloved wife of Roy E. Black, died peacefully Sept. 8 after losing her struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born May 18, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Edwin and Portia Filbert.

    While living in Baltimore, she was active with the Girl Scouts and taught swimming for the Red Cross. After moving to Essex, she became active in St. John’s Episcopal Church. She was also an accomplished seamstress and knitter and enjoyed making teddy bears, which she shared with many friends. Selina lived a happy life surrounded by love, family, and friends.

    In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Linda Lindsey of Lander, Wyoming, and Barbara Boucher and her husband Peter Boucher of Manchester; and her four granddaughters, Laura Lindsey and Hannah Lindsey of Colorado and Kayleigh Boucher and Kelsey Boucher of South Dakota. Selina was predeceased by her sister Portia Bowers of Essex.

    A memorial service in her memory will be held Monday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Main Street, Essex, with reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church. New Haven Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
