Leona R. Guenther, 99, Old Saybrook

Leona R. Guenther, 99, of Old Saybrook, beloved wife of the late Lewis R. Guenther Sr., died Sept. 6 at Apple Rehabilitation in Old Saybrook. She was born Sept. 18, 1913 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Robert John and Leonia Mary Campbell Ross.

Leona graduated in 1936 from Edgewood Park Junior College in Greenwich. She married Lewis on Jan. 27, 1940, and worked for Dutch Maid Clothes, based out of Pennsylvania, and Chesebrough-Ponds in Clinton.

She will be sadly missed.

Leona is survived by two sons, Robert Guenther and his wife Janet of Niantic and Richard Guenther and his wife Barbara of Old Saybrook; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by her second husband, Stuart Simmons, several years ago.
