    William Hancock Welsh, 91, Wallingford, formerly of Madison

    William Hancock Welsh, 91, of Wallingford, formerly of Madison, husband of 60 years to the late Anne Wilkins Welsh, died peacefully Sept. 19. William was born Jan 2, 1922 in New Britain to the late Vernon C. Welsh and Laura H. Welsh. His college education was interrupted by World War II, when he left to serve with the 921st Signal Company, Department of Aviation. He ultimately graduated from Norwich University with a B.S. in electrical engineering and worked for General Electric for his entire career. 

    He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Madison for the past 48 years, where he served in various positions, including Chairman of the Prudential Committee. He was also a member of the Madison Country Club for 45 years and a Freemason with various lodges for more than 60 years.

    William is survived by two sons, William H. Welsh, Jr, of Madison and Stuart, Florida and John W. Welsh of Strafford, Vermont; two granddaughters, Ashley of Edmond, Oklahoma and Jessica of Yankee Lake, New York; a grandson, Tyler, with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; three beautiful great-granddaughters; and his companion of later years, Lois Winchester of Cumberland, Rhode Island.

    A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Madison. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the First Congregational Church of Madison/Memorial gifts, 26 Meetinghouse Lane, Madison, CT  06443. Hawley Lincoln Memorial, Guilford, is in charge of arrangements.
