    Mary Geiger Young Welch, 96, Old Saybrook, formerly of Madison

    Mary Geiger Young Welch, 96, of Old Saybrook, formerly of Madison and Clemson, South Carolina, died peacefully Sept. 23. She was born March 7, 1917 in East Orange, New Jersey to the late John J. Geiger and Hilda Winter Geiger.  

    Mary loved to play bridge and was a strong, beautiful, smart and witty woman with a terrific sense of humor. She was fondly known as “Mim” to her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

    Mary is survived by her brother John J. Geiger, Jr.; her sister-in-law Betty; her loving granddaughters Stephanie T. Jacobs of Guilford, Melissa Y. Richards and her husband Tom of Los Alamitos, California; Tracy T. Chidsey and her husband Scott of Clinton; and Lindsay T. Doran and her husband Brett of Bend, Oregon; her great-grandchildren Nicholas and his fiancé Erica, Natalie, Hailey, Matthew, Marnie and Ashlyn; and her great-great- granddaughter Ainsley. She was predeceased by her husbands Daniel A. Young and Howard C. Welch; her sister Ruth Bowers; and her beloved daughter Marianne Y. Tompkins of Madison.

    Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church, 24 Academy St, Madison. Burial will be private.
