Carlene (Scherb) Lauber, 80, of Essex, died unexpectedly Oct. 3 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was born in 1933 in New Haven to Carl Scherb and Matilda Sperzel. She graduated from Hamden High School and had a love for gardening and cooking. She was best known for being a great mom.

She is survived by her beloved husband Raymond C. Lauber; her three children, Wendi L. Butler of Deep River, Sheryl L. Weden of Dover, Massachusetts, and Steven Lauber of Sugarland, Texas; her brother Clifford Scherb of Madison; and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Scherb.

A private graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Essex. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to The Michael J.
