    Paul Cosmo Carubia, 59, Ithaca, New York, formerly of Branford

    Paul Cosmo Carubia, 59, of Ithaca, New York, formerly of Branford, died Oct. 30 after a short battle with lung cancer. Paul was born Nov. 1, 1953 in New Haven to the late Salvatore and Ermen Gilda Carubia. He grew up along the shoreline of Branford, where he developed a love of the water, fishing, swimming, and boating on Long Island Sound with his family.

    He graduated from Branford High School in 1971, and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (Zeta Mu) and earned a degree in civil and environmental engineering in 1976. He continued his studies and research at Cornell University. Paul was owner and president of Enviro-Control Technologies, Inc. and PB Associates LLC in Ithaca.

    His utmost pride and joy in life was his seven- year-old son, Alessandro Cosimo Carubia. Paul was an avid motor enthusiast and enjoyed driving around the track in his BMW with his son. Paul had the love and respect of many friends and professionals in the community, and will be missed by all. May he rest in peace.

    In addition to his son, Paul is survived by his wife Sonraeanna Pagliaro Carubia of Hector, New York; step-daughter Victoria Pagliaro-Katz of San Diego, California; brother John and sister-in-law Valerie of Guilford; half-sister Pauline Cacioppo of Mystic; brothers-in-law Matthew Pagliaro and his wife Julie, Michael Pagliaro, and Mark Pagliaro, all of Ithaca; his aunt and uncle Sue and Paul Cacioppo of East Haven; niece and godchild Melissa Carubia; nephews Jason and Kevin Carubia; Symphonie Pagliaro, Matthew Pagliaro, Nicholas Pagliaro, Mikaela Pagliaro, and Giovanni Pagliaro; cousins Sheri, Michael, and Christopher Cacioppo, Robert Carubia, and Ginny Borgia; and his close and beloved friends Melanie Ahouse, Wade Geer, John Grady, Steven Lichak, and Susan Vance.

    A Mass of Christian burial was held Nov. 5 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca, New York. Donations may be made in Paul's name to the American Lung Association's Stop Smoking Program. Bangs Funeral Home of Ithaca was in charge of arrangements.
