Evelyn F. Humphreys, 86, of Madison, wife of the late Joseph H. Humphreys, died Nov. 11 with her beloved family by her side. Evelyn was born May 27, 1927 to the late Arthur and Mary Bacon. She was raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and graduated from Pawtucket High School.

In addition to raising her three children, Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper for both the Board of Education and the Town of Madison. She later went on to earn a degree in computer programming from Middlesex Community College.

Evelyn was a member of St. Margaret’s Church, had a passion for reading and traveling, and was extremely talented in knitting and sewing. She will also be remembered for her love of the organ and piano.

She is survived by her beloved sister Marguerite Scothon of Cumberland, Rhode Island; her son Paul J. Humphreys of Groton; daughters Judith Hovey of Deep River and Barbara DeLoreto and her husband Kevin of Clinton; and two granddaughters, Kristina Hovey and Lauren DeLoreto.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Nov. 18 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Church in Madison, followed by interment in West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn’s name may be made to the Henry Carter Hull Library, RT. 81, Clinton, CT 06413. The Swan Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
