    Arthur E. Sonnichsen, 95, Madison

    Arthur E. Sonnichsen, 95, of Madison, husband of 73 years to the late Elizabeth Sonnichsen, died peacefully Nov. 19 at his home.

    Mr. Sonnichsen graduated from Daniel Hand High School and the University of New Haven, where he earned a degree in industrial engineering. He was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Company for more than 42 years before retiring in 1982. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years, as well as the Masonic Temple, where he was a past Master.

    The family would like to thank Arthur’s nurses and caregivers for their compassionate care.

    He is survived by his four children, David Sonnichsen and his wife Lucille, Katherine and her husband Mark Schwartz, Robert Sonnichsen and his wife Leesa, and Susan and her husband Thomas Shanley; nine grandchildren, Elsa and her husband Joseph Spezio, James Sonnichsen and his wife Joanne, Adam Schwartz and his wife Sheri, Noah Schwartz and his wife Kathleen, Joshua Schwartz and his wife Daniela, Tyler Sonnichsen, Brittany Sonnichsen, Ryan Shanley, and Christopher Shanley; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one sister and three brothers.

    A private ceremony and burial was held Nov. 25 in West Cemetery, Madison. A memorial service for both Arthur and Elizabeth is planned for March 15, 2014 in Madison. An announcement will be made when time and location are finalized. Memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. Swan Funeral Home, Clinton, was in charge of arrangements.
