Edward T. Burns, 95, of Madison, husband of Amalia “Molly” (Suarez) Burns, died Dec. 27.  He was born Dec. 21, 1918 in Albany, New York, the youngest of three sons of the late John F. Burns and Agnes Collins Burns.

Edward was a graduate of Vincentian Institute High School in Albany, New York, Mount St. Mary University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and Columbia University Law School in New York City. He was a member of the bar of Connecticut and New York, practiced law in New York City for 35 years, and continued private practice in semi-retirement after moving to Madison in 1986. Before entering private practice in New York, he was Senior Attorney for the National Broadcasting Company, served in the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps and was an FBI Agent from 1942 to 1946. He and Amalia were married in November 1953 in New York City.

Edward was a communicant of Saint Margaret Church in Madison, served as lector and minister of the Eucharist and was former president of the Parish Council. He was a member of the Madison Country Club, a director of the Madison Property Owner’s Association, and former president of the Kensington Acres North Owner’s Association.

He is survived by his wife Amalia; daughter Maria B. Laughlin of Laurel, Maryland; son Edward T. Burns, Jr., of Avon, Indiana; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert A. Burns and Donald F. Burns.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at Saint Margaret Church in Madison. Friends may call Friday, Jan. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, Madison.
