    Rosamond Hammer Fouser, 86, Branford

    Rosamond Hammer Fouser died peacefully at her home in Short Beach, Branford, on Sunday, Jan. 12, three days before her 87th birthday. She was in company of her adoring family.

    She was a native of Branford, daughter of the late Eugenie Bauer Enquist and Forrester L. Hammer, and a step-daughter of the late Roy C. Enquist. Her devoted husband and lifelong friend and companion George W. Fouser, survives her.

    Rosamond Fouser was educated at Hamden Hall Country Day School and Yale Music School. She resided in Darien for 40 years but stayed close to Branford connections and returned in 1999. Her great-grandfather Thorvald F. Hammer was one of the founders of the Malleable Iron Fittings Company of Branford, which became a significant manufacturer of iron and steel products. The Hammer family was devoted to Branford and active in the town’s cultural, political, and commercial activities for well over a century. Rosamond Fouser was the last of the family to reside in Branford.

    She was predeceased by her sons Jonathan and Christian, and by her brother A.E. Hammer II. In addition to her husband George, she is survived by a sister, Gretl Hammer Worthy of Rockland, Maine; and two daughters, Annaliese Vladic of Short Beach, and Jocelyn Summerton and her husband Douglas of Guilford. She is also survived by her son Julian and his wife Ellen, and by sons Mark, Andrew, and Nathaniel, all of Branford. She leaves six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service will be held this Friday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church in Branford.
