    Catherine Piombino Kowalewski, 89, North Haven

    Catherine Piombino Kowalewski, 89, of North Haven peacefully and courageously passed away on March 26 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut, after a short illness. She was born in East Haven, Connecticut, on March 21, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Rose (DeSantos) Piombino. She was the beloved wife of Alfred Kowalewski for 63 thoroughly wonderful years.

    She is survived by her loving family: her husband Alfred Kowalewski; her daughter Deborah Morettini and husband Edward; granddaughters Michelle LaPointe and her husband John, and Lisa Spooner and her husband Will; her most precious great-grandchildren Paige, Cooper, and Jace LaPointe, and Lilly Spooner who affectionately knew her as “Ma.” She is also survived by her brother Frank Piombino, and two sisters, Dorothy DeCavage and Joan Mastrantonio. She is predeceased by her sisters Mary Cognata, Lillian Mantovani, and Helen Field. She leaves behind her nieces and nephews, whose company she cherished and always looked forward to at the Piombino family picnic each September.

    She will be remembered for her strong faith and as a parishioner of St. Therese’s Church in North Haven, for being an avid reader, and for her love of telling stories to her family about her youth. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

    Funeral services will be conducted at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., March 29 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be March 29 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
