    Jane Schlander Tremayne, 86, Branford

    Jane Schlander Tremayne of Branford died peacefully at her home on May 28. She was the wife of the late Frederick F. Tremayne. Jane was born in Waterbury on December 23, 1927, a daughter of Gunner and Edith Parker Schlander.

    She was the beloved mother of Cynthia Von Oeyen (husband Richard) of Lee, New Hampshire, Catherine Zuraw of Ansonia, and Geoffrey Tremayne (wife Kaye) of Oxford, Mississippi. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael Von Oeyen (wife Aimee), Eric Von Oeyen (wife Andrea), and Angela Jane Tremayne. She was the treasured great-grandmother of Patrick Von Oeyen and Theodore Von Oeyen.

    Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother William Schlander, her son-in-law Stephen D. Zuraw, and her grandson Stephen F. Zuraw.

    She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury and Skidmore College in Saratoga, New York. She worked at the New York Public Library for a few years after college. She owned the Animal Corner Toy Store at Bittersweet Farms in Branford for many years. She was a renowned stuffed animal and teddy bear craftsperson and traveled to many craft fairs in New England. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and the seashore. Her love of word puzzles kept her young. Her favorite thing was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

    A Memorial Service was held at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, on June 2 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
