    Robert L. Baker

    North Haven

    Robert L. Baker, 78, of North Haven, passed away Aug. 13 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 33 years to Audrey D. Baker. Robert was born in New Haven, son of the late Stanley and Esther Baker of North Haven. He was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Janet “Muffy” Johnson, son Kenny Baker, and his brother Stanley.

    He is survived not only by his wife, but also his brother, Stephen (Barbara) Baker of Georgia; sister Nancy Lowe of North Carolina; three sons, David (Dawn) of Stockton, California, Robert Baker of North Guilford, and Thomas Baker of North Guilford; his step-children Kathi (Mark) Pino of North Branford, Eileen (Jim) Ehman of Ansonia, and Joe (Ceci) of Trumbull; their children; and many grandchildren. Besides his wife and family, he will also miss his loyal dog Jake.

    He enjoyed a 38-year career with the Sears Roebuck Company in West Haven before retiring in 1992. At Sears, he worked his way up from warehouse/receiving and service technician to the service supervisor responsible for 40 technicians.

    While Bob could not join the Armed Forces due to a medical issue, he gave endless hours as a dedicated and proud volunteer in serving and protecting our local communities. Bob was a Connecticut forest fire warden (believed to be the youngest at age 16) for North Haven/North Guilford for 32 years; a Connecticut State Police auxiliary trooper squad leader (Troup F Westbrook) for 15 years; a member and officer of the North Guilford Fire Company and Emergency Squad for 23 years; and a North Guilford scout master and a deacon of the North Guilford Congregational Church for several years.

    Throughout his life, Bob was also an enthusiastic hobbyist who enjoyed restoring and showing classic Hudson cars, often with his brother Stanley.

    A private memorial and burial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. The North Haven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
