    Thomas G. Dorrian

Thomas G. Dorrian, 93, died peacefully at home on Aug. 26 after a long illness that he faced with grace and humor. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Miriam; his ten children, James (Sharon), Thomas, Mary Jane (Chris), Brian (Linda), Daniel, Joseph (Kathy), Gerard (Patricia), Grace (Ken), Sarah (James), and Raymond (Gail); his 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Ann.

Thomas was born in Manhattan, New York, on Nov. 28, 1920, and had one brother, John, a sister, Winifred, and a beloved cousin, Kitty. He served bravely during World War II as a tail gunner in the Army Air Force. In 1944 while flying on a mission over Holland, his plane was shot down and he was captured and held as a POW in Germany for one year. After the war, he joined the NYPD and retired as a detective sergeant after twenty years. He finished his working career as a security supervisor at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. After his retirement in 1985, he moved to Madison and spent many years enjoying friends, travel, tennis, and most of all his family.
