Abele Jr. wins SK Modifieds race at the Speedbowl

Waterford - Tom Abele Jr. of Norwich picked up his first SK Modified victory of the season, holding off Mark Bakaj of Lebanon (second) and Nichole Morgillo of Yalesville (third) in the caution-filled race Saturday night at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry was penalized for rough riding after forcing Keith Rocco of Wallingford out of the race on the 22nd lap of the 35-lap race. Rounding out the top five were Shawn Solomito of Islip, N.Y., and Salem's Jeff Pearl.

Other winners were Phil Evans of Uncasville (Mini Stocks), Curtis D'Addario of Columbia (X-Cars) and David Garbo Jr. of Stonington (Legends Cars).

Rocco, despite a 14th-place finish, still leads the SK Modifieds' points race with 878. Pearl is second with 830 and Waterford's Rob Janovic Jr. has 819.
