Waterford - Justin Keating's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning snapped a 5-5 tie to give Waterford a 6-5 win over Southington on Thursday and a sweep of their best-of-three American Legion baseball state tournament regional.

Waterford, the Zone 6 champion, also beat Southington 6-5 on Wednesday. Waterford advances to a four-team Super Regional at Muzzy Field in Bristol, which begins Saturday.

Colin Harrington (5-3) pitched all nine innings for the win. Harrington gave up three runs in the top of the first inning, but didn't allow an earned run the rest of the way. He scattered nine hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Waterford received a bye through the sectional tournament, thanks to winning the zone.

"It helped a lot,'' said Waterford coach Kevin Irvine. "We've been able to get our pitchers some rest.''

Keating's game-winner came with one out in the ninth and scored James Foti, who reached on an error.

Waterford tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the fifth inning. Southington took a 5-3 with two runs in the sixth, but again, Waterford rallied with two in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5. Griffin Archambault had two hits and drove in a run, Kevin Johnson scored three times and Adam Goss had a run-scoring single for Waterford.

• Niantic, another Zone 6 representaive, was eliminated in three games by Zone 8 champion Tolland. After dropping Wednesday's series opener, Niantic came back to win Game 2 on Thursday, 5-4, before Tolland bounced back to win the deciding game 9-7.

State Babe Ruth (15)

• Stamford advanced to the Connecticut Babe Ruth baseball 15-year-old state championship game with a 5-4 victory over New Milford at the Waterford Babe Ruth Field.

Stamford advances to Saturday's title game at 1 p.m. against the winner of today's other semifinal between Waterford and Danbury at 5:30 p.m.

Waterford went 3-0 to advance as the No. 1 seed out of its pool.

NECBL

• The Mystic Schooners lost the New Bedford Bay Sox, 4-2. UConn-Avery Point's Doug Domnarski pitched the first four innings for the Schooners, but didn't figure in the decision. The former Stonington High standout allowed one run and four hits, striking out two with no walks. Chase Livingston of Niantic (Rhode Island) and Stephen Laurino (Marist) each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nick Ruppert (Dartmouth) scored twice for Mystic (18-15), which resides in fourth place in the Southern Division. The last-place Bay Sox improved to 9-26. Laurino still leads the NECBL in hitting (.411).

NY-Penn League

• Brett Pirtle's two-run homer highlighted a three-run top of the ninth inning that lifted the Connecticut Tigers to a 5-2 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds.

Johan Belisario (4-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one hit over two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Josh Laxer pitched the ninth to earn his first save of the season. Michael Gerber was 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Tigers (20-20).
