    Local roundup: Old Lyme boys and girls advance to Shoreline title games

    Old Lyme - Alston Rountree broke a scoreless tie with only two minutes left in regulation to lift second-seeded Old Lyme High School to a 1-0 win over No. 3 Haddam-Killingworth in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference girls' soccer tournament Wednesday.

    Rountree drilled a direct kick into the net for the Wildcats (14-3), who advanced to Friday's championship game at Portland High School (5 p.m.) against No. 4 Coginchaug, which upset No. 1 Morgan 2-1 in overtime in the other semifinal. Old Lyme beat Coginchaug 1-0 on Sept. 24.

    Old Lyme held a 9-5 edge in shots and goalkeepers Keelin Hurtt and Kyra Teixeira combined for five saves.

    Top-ranked Old Lyme also advanced to the final of the Shoreline boys' tournament with a 3-0 semifinal win over No. 4 Haddam-Killingworth. The Wildcats (13-2-2) will play No. 2 Cromwell in Friday's (7 p.m.) final. Cromwell beat No. 3 Valley Regional 3-0 in the other semifinal. Cromwell beat Old Lyme 1-0 on Oct. 9 in the only meeting between the teams.

    Sal Tinnerello opened the scoring at 34:15 with Rowan Hallahan assisting and sophomore Quinn Hallahan gave Old Lyme a big boost when he scored off a Joel Driscoll assist with five seconds left in the first half. Will Ferguson scored off a Rowan Hallahan corner kick in the 73rd minute to close out the scoring.

    Brian Winters needed just one save the earn the shutout as Old Lyme outshot Haddam-Killingworth 20-5.

    H.S. boys' soccer

    • Rocky Hill (R.I.) rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to edge Williams School 3-2. Ashton Kozlowski (11th minute) and Jack Fader (37th minute) scored in the first half for the Blues (2-11-2) while goalie Case van der Velde made 14 saves.

    • St. Thomas More goalie John Wheatley made six saves but the Chancellors lost to MacDuffie 3-0.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Molly Crowley scored twice as Stonington completed an undefeated Eastern Connecticut Conference season with a 4-0 win over East Lyme. Meagan Dreher and Margot Calmar also scored and Cameron Dreher made two saves for the Bears (14-1, 14-0). Alex Rose made 16 saves for East Lyme (7-8-1, 7-6-1).

    • Lauren Pascoe had a goal and an assist as Old Saybrook defeated Waterford 3-0. Goalie Jodi Weiss made nine saves for the Lancers (7-6-2).

    • Allie Norman scored a pair of first-half goals as Williams beat the Pomfret junior varsity 2-0. Bea Mills had an assist and Sydney Olstein made one save for the Blues (1-6-2).

    Women's soccer

    • Vannessa Ortiz had a goal and an assist as Mitchell College beat Wheelock 4-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference. Alexandra Mahar, Alexandra Charles and Katie McBride also scored and Lindsay Noble had an assist for the Mariners (2-11-2, 2-4-2).

    • Connecticut College, which finished the season by winning seven of its last eight games, earned the No. 3 seed for the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament and will host a playoff game for the first time in program history on Saturday when No. 6 Trinity comes to New London for a quarterfinal game at 12:30 p.m. The Camels (13-2, 8-2) beat the Bantams (8-6-1, 4-5-1) 4-0 last week.

    Men's soccer

    • Dylan Hoy scored on a free kick in the 23rd minute as Wesleyan beat Conn College 1-0 in the NESCAC. Daniel Cui made six saves for Conn (6-8-1, 3-6-1). Conn earned the eighth seed in the NESCAC tournament and will play at No. 1 Tufts Saturday.

    • Mitchell College lost to Lesley 3-0 in a NECC game. Ramazan Sinani made two saves for Mitchell (9-8-1, 4-2).

    College field hockey

    • Conn College rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Wesleyan 3-2 in a NESCAC game. Maggie Wells' unassisted goal in the 60th minute proved to be the game-winner. Jillian Dahrooge got Conn on the scoreboard at 52:08 and Katlyn Paiva tied the game at 57:00. Ryley van der Velde made five saves and Heidi Halsted had an assist for Conn (6-9, 2-8). There was a three-way tie for the final NESCAC tournament spot and Hamilton won the draw to break the tie, ending the season for Conn and Wesleyan.

    Women's volleyball

    • Connecticut College ran its winning streak to three, beating Eastern Connecticut State 15-25, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-13. Sam Hunter had 11 kills and five digs, Gabby Taylor had 10 kills, six digs and two blocks, Emily Arterbury had 22 assists and three aces and Chloe Ainley had 26 digs and five assists for Conn (13-9). Former Fitch standout Ashley Adams had 12 kills and two blocks for Eastern (15-14).

    • Daniel Webster beat Mitchell 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 in the NECC. Nicole Caminiti had 13 digs and 14 assists and Amanda Garcia had six kills for Mitchell (5-16, 1-6).

    H.S. swimming

    • Old Lyme's Molly Biega captured the 100 breaststroke and helped the Wildcats to a runnerup finish in the Shoreline Conference championship meet at Haddam-Killingworth on Tuesday night. Biega won the race in 1:28.35, placed fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:03.75) and was also part of two second-place relay teams, joining Christy Kosecki, Caroline Cox and Emma Hoyte on the the 200 medley and 200 freestyle teams. Individually, Cox placed second in the 200 IM (2:42.43) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:17.93), Hoyte was fourth in the 50 free (28.91) and fifth in the 100 free (1:04.60) and Kosecki was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:36.74).
