    Local roundup: Mitchell men, women lose soccer openers

    Henniker, N.H. — Michael Skarbelis had a goal and an assist as the New England College men’s soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit and beat Mitchell College on Thursday, 4-2, in the season-opener for both schools.

    Rizy Misiri had two assists for the Pilgrims and Emmanuel Smith, Ronsard Masamba and Kyle Clements all scored.

    Khaliyl Holland and Andrew Nigro scored in the first 26 minutes for the Mariners. Anthony Drake added 11 saves.

    Women’s soccer

    • Jaycie Triandafilou scored twice as New England College beat Mitchell, 3-0, in the season-opener for both programs. Emily LePage scored for the Pilgrims. Jordan Lohneiss had nine saves for the Mariners and Drew Johndrow added six saves.

    Tigers rained out

    • The Connecticut Tigers and Lowell Spinners will play a New York-Penn League doubleheader on Friday at Dodd Stadium after Thursday's game was postponed due to wet field conditions. The doubleheader, which begins at 5:05 p.m., will consist of two seven inning games. Fans who purchased tickets can exchange them at the stadium box office on for any of Connecticut's five remaining home games.
