Florentino said he was spending the day fishing because he wanted to get out of the house and was thankful that Gov. Ned Lamont, by executive order, opened the fishing season early.     Paul Goldstein, a member of the 3rd District Representative Town Meeting, comes in from outside carrying a box of donations just collected from a vehicle to place it with the other Waterford Food Drive donations collected Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Waterford Town Hall. The event was hosted by First Selectman Rob Brule and Waterford Youth & Family Services to help the organization replenish the town's Interfaith Food Locker. Members of the Waterford Board of Selectmen, Representative Town Meeting, and Youth and Family Services volunteered to collect donations. Brule said that The people want to do something to help their neighbors and the Board of Selectmen decided a drive-thru and drop-off food drive would be a good controlled environment for collecting donations. He thought the event would give people a sense of togetherness when we are all practicing to be alone. Saturday was the third and final week of the food drive due to the coronavirus still peaking and they want to keep the volunteers home. Over the past 3 weeks the drive has provided over 1,000 meals and are barely keeping up. People can still make donations by dropping items off at Waterford Youth and Family Services Monday-Friday 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.. (Dana Jensen/The Day)
