    POLICE DISCOVER LARGE POT-GROWING OPERATION

    Norwich - Police arrested a city man Thursday who they allege was growing dozens of marijuana plants out of his Convent Avenue apartment.

    Anthony Machabee, 21, of 53 Convent Ave., Apt. 3, was charged with possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with 1,500 feet of a school, possession of ecstasy, possession of ecstasy with intent to sell, possession of ecstasy with 1,500 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Police responded Thursday to Machabee's apartment to investigate a noise complaint.

    When police made contact with Machabee they noticed several drug paraphernalia items that indicated to them he was growing pot.

    Police arrested Machabee and obtained a search and seizure warrant to search the rest of the residence.

    At 9:20 p.m. police officers and detectives executed the search and seizure warrant.

    Police found 45 marijuana plants in various stages of growth.

    They also seized 7 ounces of marijuana packaged for sale and about 150 ecstasy pills.

    Machabee is being held on a $150,000 bond, pending his arraignment Friday in Norwich Superior Court.

    Police said the investigation is ongoing and they expect to make more arrests.
