    Fire in Mystic destroys car, damages house

    Mystic - A car fire Friday morning at 65 Russell St. destroyed the vehicle, the car port under which it was parked, and did extensive damage to the house.

    Old Mystic Chief Kenneth Richards said he heard that the elderly woman and her 51-year-old daughter, who were in the home, attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose before they called 911.

    The fire was reported about 11 a.m. Firefighters from Old Mystic, Mystic, Sub Base FAST team, Mystic River ambulance, L&M paramedics responded.

    Richards said it appears the fire started in the car. He said the mother and daughter were taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for observation.

    Another daughter, who arrived at the house after the fire started, fell in the street and was also taken to the hospital, Richards said.

    The cause is under investigation.
