New London man in custody charged in burglary ring

New London - A New London man who is in custody on burglary charges was arrested again Tuesday in connection with a burglary ring in the city. Angel Santiago, 48, of Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center, Montville, was charged with fifth-degree larceny, two counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of sixth-degree larceny and two counts of second-degree burglary.

Deputy Police Chief Marshall Segar said Santiago is part of a burglary and larceny ring on Mountain Avenue. He is accused of stealing contractor-grade power tools and equipment.

Last month, New London police charged Santiago with burglary and uncovered the burglary ring.

Segar said detectives hope to make contact with victims of theft and fraudulent sales.

He said the investigation led to the recovery of approximately $25,000 in stolen property from the Mountain Avenue site.

More than 30 pieces of seized property are being cataloged, Segar said. The detective bureau has opened a victims "hot line" so that the owners of the stolen property can begin the claims process.

New London residents or businesses that have been the victim of a larceny or burglary where power tools or equipment were stolen are encouraged to call police detectives at (860) 447-1481.

Callers should have as much information available as possible, including serial numbers, receipts and model numbers, the detectives said. Once a list of victims is developed from police reports and callers, a date and time will be scheduled for viewing and claiming property.
