Man charged in robbery of Norwich bank

Norwich — A city man has been charged in connection with the robbery of the Dime Savings Bank on Salem Turnpike Wednesday afternoon.

According to Norwich police, the bank’s robbery alarm sounded at the police department at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday. The city’s patrol and detective division responded and, with Connecticut State Police, set up a perimeter around the bank.

Norwich police Officer Scott Meikle and his police dog, Kimo, began a track and, a short distance from the bank, arrested Scott Thompson, 46, of 5 Nordon Ave. and recovered the bank’s missing currency, in excess of $5,000.

Thompson was charged with third-degree larceny and third-degree robbery. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Norwich Superior Court Thursday.
