Boat runs aground near Stonington Harbor

Stonington — A 36-foot foot cabin cruiser ran aground on the rocks off the east end of the Stonington Harbor breakwater about 11 a.m. this morning.

Stonington Police Capt. Jerry Desmond said neither the man or woman on  board were injured. He said the boat, which sustained significant hull damage, had to be towed into Dodson’s Boatyard in the borough. He said Tow Boat USA, the Coast Guard, Stonington borough fire department and police all responded to the incident. He said a preliminary investigation indicated the boat first struck some submerged rocks near the breakwater before running aground.
