    Police find dead woman's car

Groton — State police said Monday that they found the car of a Ledyard woman who was found floating in the water near the entrance to Bluff Point State Park Saturday afternoon.

Tricia Beattie, 36, of 372D Colonel Ledyard Highway, was pronounced dead at the scene when local and state police, as well as state emergency rescue teams, were called to the park around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Initially, state police said that Beattie's car, a black 2006 Kia Optima with Connecticut dealer's license plate XSA-21, was missing.

Lt. J. Paul Vance, state police spokesman, said Monday the car was found in an undisclosed location in Groton.

He said police are still treating her death as suspicious and untimely.

Police said that Beattie was last seen around 1 a.m., on Saturday in the area of 1649 Route 12, in Gales Ferry.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy today to determine the cause and manner of death, said Vance.

The State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded to the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police Department at (860) 848-6500. All calls will be kept confidential.
