Police searching for man wanted for North Stonington robbery

North Stonington – State and tribal police notified town and tribal members Monday afternoon that they are looking for a man, possibly armed, who is wanted for a robbery.

At about 2:30 p.m., a resident contacted Troop E reporting a larceny had been committed at his home in the area of Yawbuk Valley Road.

The complainant stated to troopers that he was approached at his residence by a man who asked to use the phone. When the homeowner was briefly distracted, the suspect took cash from the residence.

The suspect fled the residence in a vehicle and while fleeing was involved in a crash on Route 2 near Ryder Road. The suspect fled on foot into the woods.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6-foot, 3-inches and 200 pounds, wearing a dark blue shirt and baggy blue jean shorts. The suspect was last seen running southwest into the woods. Troopers and state police canine teams searched for but didn't locate the suspect.

Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Chief William Dittman sent an email to tribal members about the search for the suspect, and state police sent out a similar recorded phone message to North Stonington residents, urging people to lock their cars and homes.

"You should not allow anyone you do not know into your home, nor should you answer the door without making sure you are aware who is there," Dittman said in his email.
