New London police: Man looking to trade TV for crack is robbed

New London — Police early Wednesday arrested two people who they say robbed a man trying to swap a flat-screen television for crack cocaine.

Siandre Jenkins, 34, of 66 Boswell Ave., Norwich, and Sekiyo Frett, 26, of 27 Dell Ave., New London, were each charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree larceny.

Police said they responded to the area of 400 Williams St. at 2:41 a.m. for a report of an assault in progress.

While responding to the scene, the police dispatch center received a 911 call from a witness to the assault who said he was following the vehicle that had fled from the scene of the assault.

The witness said he saw a man struggling to take a large, flat-screen television from another man. The vehicle, whose driver attempted to elude the witness, was abandoned by its occupants when police arrived at the dead-end of Gorton Street near a baseball field.

A short time later, police officers located Jenkins and Frett hiding nearby. While at the scene, the witness was able to make positive identifications of Jenkins and Frett, police said.

Officers on Williams Street located the victim of the assault, who told police he was walking on Williams Street with his television, looking to trade it for crack cocaine.

The victim said Jenkins and Frett pulled up in their car and robbed him, taking the television.
