New London – The 46-year-old Taftville man who fell 45 feet while working on a Hempstead Street home remains in serious condition Tuesday afternoon at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Nate Sutera was injured in the fall around 2:15 p.m. Monday. Scaffolding which stood next to 36 Hempstead St. where he worked appeared to have collapsed, causing his fall and subsequent injuries. Emergency responders said Sutera reported having no feeling below his waist immediately after the fall.

Sutera was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital before he was flown to New Haven for treatment.

Police said they conducted an initial investigation and have referred the case to officials at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, for a potential follow-up.
