    Police investigate bank robbery in East Lyme, release surveillance photos

    State police are investigating an armed robbery of the Savings Institute Bank and Trust on Flanders Road in East Lyme that took place shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from Lt. J. Paul Vance. The Connecticut State Police released surveillance photos from the 5:01 p.m. incident.

    State troopers and East Lyme police officers responded to 911 calls reporting the robbery. In photos obtained by police from bank security footage, the suspect was wearing a black hat, sunglasses and a gray sweatshirt.

    Police determined that, upon entry to the bank at 305 Flanders Road, the suspect said he had a weapon and demanded cash, then fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. Physical and forensic evidence were discovered at the scene, according to the press release. Police and state police K-9 units searched the area.

    State police ask that anyone who might have been in the area of the bank at the time of the robbery and seen anything suspicious contact them at (860) 848-6500. All calls will be kept confidential.
