Ledyard firefighters quickly extinguish fire in attic

Ledyard - Firefighters Wednesday night quickly extinguished a fire at a home at 12 Algen Ave.

Fire Chief John Doucette said the fire was reported at 10:09 p.m. The sole occupant of the home said that there was smoke in the attic.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, smoke was coming out of the eaves. Firefighters discovered a 15-by-15 foot area of insulation and rafters on fire.

Doucette said they used a hand line connected to an engine to douse the fire. The blaze was under control in about 20 minutes.

The American Red Cross assisted the homeowner with relocating for the night.

The fire was reported during the peak of the nor'easter. He said roads were slippery, and a public works truck from town was called in to sand them.

    No injuries were reported.

In addition to Ledyard, the Mohegan Tribal FAST team and Ledyard ambulance also responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
