Police: Be wary of post-storm scams

Stonington police warn residents to continue to be mindful of the potential for fraudulent offers of work or special rates in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Capt. Jerry Desmond said someone recently called a resident and asked for personal information after promising a reduced electric bill because of the storm. That resident didn’t fall for the suspected scam, said Desmond, who encourages all residents to be mindful and suspicious of any similar calls, especially those asking for personal information.
